Make Love, Not War

Two words: Sheer Artistry. I was expecting Joy Williams and John Paul White of The Civil Wars to deliver at 3rd & Lindsley Bar and Grill on Sunday night -- AND THEY DID. The way the two singer-songwriters interplay is nothing short of vocal communion, dare I say vocal intercourse. Beautifully haunting Americana/folk/pop bliss. (Their cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" is well worth watching.) I was thrilled to pick up their Poison & Wine EP at the show, though I highly recommend the live album, a free download available here.

Webb Won First Spot of '10

My first concert of the new year was actually a solo, acoustic Derek Webb gig. It was interesting to hear him render songs from his latest (electronica) album, Stockholm Syndrome, on his acoustic guitar. With or without loops, Webb is a wonderful wordsmith with a great voice -- both vocally and lyrically.
