Dirge for the Purge

I am in purge mode again. I have been eyeing my 600+ CD collection and spinning those that I am considering giving the boot. This customary practice is beneficial for several reasons: 1) I keep myself from becoming a CD hoarding hag mesmerized by my music materialism, 2) I make more room for new CDs, 3) I spread the love by making the albums available for others to enjoy, and 4) I put a little money back in my pocket (assuming I sell the discs on Amazon or to a used media store). So, if you see an overabundance of old school selections on my Spinning This Week lists, you'll know why.

A Vocal Resemblance

Although I've seen his name appear here and there for several years, I was officially "introduced" to Matthew Perryman Jones (shown at right) at a recent, local, benefit show. Having had a chance to hear him both live and on tape, I think there's a vocal resemblance between Jones and one of my favorite "vocaleers," Phil Wickham. Jones' tone is similar to Wickham's, but Jones lacks Wickham's vocal bravado -- just another example of the distinction I make between "singers" and "vocalists." Mind you, I enjoy the work of both artists. I simply felt the need to share my finding of similarity.

Free Tunes, Never Too Soon

I just won tickets to the Music Builds Tour, featuring Third Day, Switchfoot, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, and Jars of Clay. I had considered going to the show, but didn't want to badly enough to pay for a ticket. Few things in this life are better than a free concert!
