Rockin' to the Oldies

Last night, I saw one of my all-time favorite musical acts, Over the Rhine, at Calvin University. The show marked my 14th live experience with the band.  They focused on material from their earliest albums, with help from members of The Newbees, as a six-piece rock outfit.

A Look Back: OTR @ 12&P

As I continue to comb through my music collection, I continue to find mementos and keepsakes that I squirreled away over the years.  I believe I have yet to properly document the Over the Rhine show (pictured above) at 12th & Porter in Nashville, Tenn. on Oct. 19, 2003, literally two months after their two-disc opus Ohio was released.

A Look Back: Partnering with Over the Rhine

It has been my pleasure to partner with powerhouse singer/songwriter duo Over the Rhine over the course of the past 10 years or so, each time OtR offered the opportunity to help fund one of their last four albums.  My name -- along with a host of other patrons' -- literally appears in the liner notes of The Long Surrender, Meet Me at the Edge of the World, Blood Oranges in the Snow, and Love & Revelation.

A Look Back: Burlap to Cashmere & Steven Delopoulos in Concert

I saw folk singer/songwriter Steven Delopoulos open for Over the Rhine at Nashville (Tenn.)'s 12th & Porter on Oct. 19, 2003 (as documented above).  However, the first time I witnessed him in concert was at the Allegan County (Mich.) Fair as the frontman for his world music band Burlap to Cashmere.  The show took place in 1999 and, if memory serves me, they opened for Sixpence None the Richer.

Last night, I saw Over the Rhine (OtR) in concert at Calvin (University's) Chapel.  It marked my thirteenth time attending an OtR show, and a return to a campus I hadn't been to in 20 years or more.

Over the Toilet

I had tickets to see my beloved Over the Rhine last night. Unfortunately, Karin caught a severe stomach flu bug and the concert was cancelled. Thankfully, she survived what she dubbed on Facebook as "a contender for the suckiest 24 hours I ever spent." Looking forward to the rescheduled show.
