Full Circle Concert

Tonight, I experienced the music of folk/rock singer/songwriter Jennifer Knapp at Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill.  It was likely the seventh time I have seen her live, having begun the circle in 1999 in the same city -- Grand Rapids, Mich. -- when she opened for dc Talk, and I reviewed the show for The Holland Sentinel.

A Look Back: Additional Doris Coverage

Point of Personal Privilege: While this blog is dedicated to my coverage of musical artists and their creative output, this is the last of four posts documenting coverage that my personal musical endeavors received.

The Holland Sentinel featured my third band, Doris, on Dec. 30, 1999, in preparation for the local Y2K celebration (see bottom right photo).

A Look Back: Doris Coverage

Point of Personal Privilege: While this blog is dedicated to my coverage of musical artists and their creative output, this is the second of four posts documenting coverage that my personal musical endeavors received.

The Holland Sentinel covered my third band, Doris, on Dec. 2, 1999.  A Sentinel staff reporter at the time, I was asked to write a first-person account, as a local musician, which I gladly did (see piece in bottom, right-hand corner).

A Look Back: The Lewis Event Article

I covered The Lewis Event for The Holland Sentinel in a piece that was published on Jan. 9, 1999.  The event, named for author C.S. Lewis, was a four-day program that explored how spirituality relates to the fine arts in today's society, and included concerts by singer/songwriters Fernando Ortega and David Wilcox, as well as pop/rock band Sixpence None the Richer.

Point of Personal Privilege: My second band, MR. levi, was invited to participate in the program and played Hope College's Kletz coffeehouse during the four-day event.

A Look Back: paisley dave Article

I interviewed rock band paisley dave for a piece that was published by The Holland Sentinel on May 13, 1999.  The quartet was fronted by singer/songwriter Josh Schicker, who continued as a solo artist after the group disbanded.

A Look Back: core

For a short time, I served as the local editor for Christian Spotlight magazine, as published by The Holland Sentinel.  I covered the worship/rock band core in the January 2002 issue.  The four piece was fronted by Nate Marialke.

Point of Personal Privilege: In 2000, I toured in Germany with the band, then known as Levite, playing percussion and singing the occasional harmony (see me at right).
